If one or more of your teeth are affected by decay, chips, cracks, or other forms of damage, dental crowns may provide an ideal solution. Crowns offer both cosmetic and oral health benefits, reinforcing the structure of a tooth while helping to make a smile look whole and natural again. Crowns are typically custom-made to blend seamlessly into each patient’s unique smile. They are carefully crafted to complement the surrounding natural teeth in terms of color, size, shape, and texture and to restore integrity to the patient’s bite.
In order to create a custom crown, the patient’s tooth must first be prepared and an impression or digital Itero Scan must be taken. A temporary restoration is then used to protect the tooth until the permanent crown is ready to be placed.
If you have been told by your dentist that you need a crown, we strongly recommend you seek a second opinion (unless you already have a crown on that tooth).
At Aloha Dental Group, we have more conservative options for restoring teeth. There are more options than just a “filling” or a “crown”. We don’t have to grind your teeth down to nubs in order to give you the smile you deserve.
Until very recently, a crown was the only treatment option available to fix teeth that have been cracked, decayed or filled with mercury. Conservative porcelain fillings (known as inlays and onlays) have eliminated the need for the aggressive procedures of the past. Studies prove that the use of porcelain fillings not only fix cavities but also fortify the tooth and promote full restoration.
We understand that some dentists have been practicing the same way for a long time, and for decades they have used crowns as their main treatment option for their patients. We understand that it takes a lot of time and money to invest in the education and technology required to deliver industry-leading treatments. Some practices do not incorporate inlay and onlay procedures, as they can require additional operating time for optimal precision, but at Aloha Dental Group, minimally invasive treatments are the only option for maximum patient comfort.
When better technology is developed, we invest in it. We strive to deliver the best dental, hygiene and complete care for our patients. We say yes to premium, quality care and NO to crowns.
